What does a typical day look like for a shoulder surgeon?

My day starts with scrubs, espresso, a quick goodbye from my daughter, and a workout before heading into clinic. From there, I meet new patients, evaluate injuries, follow patients after surgery, and help them decide whether surgery is truly the right option.

Then it is time to head to the operating room.

In this video, I take you through the entire process—from individualized surgical planning and 3D shoulder models to scrubbing in, maintaining a sterile operating room, and using robotic assistance during shoulder replacement surgery.

The robot does not perform the operation or make decisions for me. It helps me carry out the plan with a high degree of precision. Every decision is still made by the surgeon, based on the individual patient and what we find during surgery.

At the end of the day, one of the most rewarding moments is reviewing the postoperative X-rays and seeing the plan come together exactly as intended.

None of this happens alone. Great patient care depends on an entire team of nurses, surgical technicians, assistants, anesthesia professionals, clinic staff, and partners working together.
